Artist Bio – Cameron Shelton
Born in Gippsland and now based in Melbourne / Narrm, Australia, Cameron Shelton is a multidisciplinary artist working across drawing, painting, and sculpture. His practice is deeply rooted in themes of nature and connectedness, exploring relationships between form, pattern, and the environment.
Cameron studied Fine Art at Chisholm Institute and has since continued to develop his practice. His work reflects observations of both micro and macro scales taking inspiration from plants, landscapes, patterns and sounds capturing the rhythms and structures that shape our surroundings. This artistic development is underpinned by a family culture of creativity, which encompasses weaving textile design, industrial design, metal fabrication, and ceramics. These familial influences are evident in the attention to structure, form, and texture in his work.
His work explores the intersection between landscape and abstraction.
These depictions explore observation of awe and wonder. Feeling of connectedness and personal diminishment we feel when experiencing places of natural beauty.
Using geometries and organic forms, his work interrogates in equal measure both the process of making art and the subject matter at hand. Through repetition, manipulation and distortion
of patterns, his pieces evoke the cyclical forces of decay, renewal and the passage of time.
The evolving interaction between light and pattern is central to the creative process, informing the development of works and revealing unexpected outcomes. The work becomes a dynamic dialogue between the changing environment and his artistic intent.
As his practice evolves Cameron continues to experiment with new media and techniques while seeking opportunities to share is work with a wider audience.
Artists statement and resume
As an artist, I aim to explore and express themes inspired by nature and our connection to it. I want to share my work while deepening my understanding of creativity. This journey is ongoing.
